Important caveats

Safety first!

This site is not a substitute for medical advice or mental health services.

  • If you have trauma or other major issues/situations to work through, please enlist the help of a therapist.  Click here to find one near you, or click here to find one who can work with you via phone, chat, or Skype-like video calls.

  • If someone you know is in danger of harm or is being abused, please call the police if the danger is imminent, or contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or click here and select "Chat Now." â€‹

The reflections offered on this site are given under the assumption that you are also taking practical steps to change situations that need to be changed.

Please don't use it to anesthetize yourself into accepting situations that you shouldn't accept, such as:

  • staying in a bad relationship: whether an abusive one or just one that your heart is telling you that you need to leave

  • staying in the wrong job or career for you

  • staying in any other type of place or situation where you're unhappy, without taking steps to change it

  • hoping that harm or injustice (toward you or others) will go away without you actively working to change it

If you have trouble discerning whether you're in a situation you need to change, try imagining if your best friend were in this situation.  What would you want for them?  If you wouldn't want someone you love to put up with it, that's a good sign that you shouldn't either.
